Chinese envoy assures support for Swat IDPs to Acting President      

ISLAMABAD, May 12 (APP): Ambassador of China in Pakistan Luo Zhaoui Tuesday said that the IDPs issue was a humanitarian problem and assured his country鈥檚 support to Pakistan in this hour of trial. He said this while talking to Acting President Dr. Fehmida Mirza here at the Parliament House.

The Acting President said that the issue of the internally displaced people (IDPs) of Swat and Malakand was human catastrophe and it needed an unprecedented response from the international community and people of Pakistan to overcome it.

She said that friendship between Pakistan and China was based on principles and understanding between the two countries and has withstood the test of time.

Dr. Fehmida said that Pak-China relationship represented a model of coexistence of two countries with different ideologies, political systems and cultural backgrounds.

She said that both the countries have, stood together as neighbors and friends in every crisis and at every change in the international and regional situations.

The Acting President said that the strategic partnership between the two fraternal countries was seen as a major factor of stability in the region.

She termed the Chinese model of development worth emulation for other developing countries. She thanked for the warm hospitality extended to her by the Chairman of NPC during her recent visit to China.

The Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaoui said that both China and Pakistan will continue supporting each other on international and regional issues and their friendship will grow stronger.

He thanked Pakistan for supporting China on all international forums.

Later, the Acting Governor of Punjab Rana Mohammad Iqbal also called on the Acting President said that Pakistani nation has always been resilient and tolerant during the period of trial.

He said that the nation will help IDPs with the same spirit and zeal they displayed during the October 2005 earthquake.

The Acting President said that the IDPs problem was biggest human tragedy and it needed baking of the international community and NGOs to supplement the government鈥檚 efforts.

The Acting governor said that the problem confronting the country needed to be tackled jointly.

He said that Pakistan at this juncture could not afford internal bickering and urged the politicians to forge unity to face the challenges confronting the country.
