Pakistan China Trade and Commerce

Pakistan and China are trading partners since ancient times when trade caravans used to travel via the famous "Silk Road". After the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1950s, first formal trade agreement was signed in January 1963. A joint Committee for Economics, trade and technology cooperation (JEC) was formed in October 1982, since then, its meetings are being held on regular basis to review the overall trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. Last JEC meeting was held prior to the state visit of the Chinese Prime Minister His Excellency Wen Jianbao in April 2005.

Through joint efforts, bilateral trade and economic cooperation has grown manifolds. According to the statistics issued by the General Administration of Customs of People Republic of China, trade volume exceeded USD 3 billion in 2004. Chinese companies are involved in major infrastructure development projects and are also making investments in various Joint Venture Projects in Pakistan. Recent high-level visits are excepted to accelerate the bilateral trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Pakistan and China has signed various agreements and MOUs such as Avoidance of double taxation treaty, Preferential trade agreement, Early Harvest Programme for Free Trade Agreement, Agreement on Cooperation and Mutual Assistance in customs Matters, Agriculture cooperation etc.
